Found a Reason

I make the best of friends with strangers.

I've been meaning to write one of these for a WHILE now. It's 10:24 pm. Whoa. These days that's rather late. These days being my weird Alaskan work schedule. I'm not there right now, but while I'm up there working, my bed time reads about 9pm. What am I even talking about? Well, I have this random summer job up in Alaska which I believe I made mention of in my last blog. So what that means, is that for two weeks I am up in Alaska, working 12hr days, living up in a camp near the Arctic Ocean, and then the other two weeks I'm off. So, I flew home to Colorado, and have the next week and a half off. It's been a great summer so far. Really, it has FLOWN by, but I'm sure most people feel that way about their own.
My feet, well, boots in the Arctic Ocean.

[Oh dear, I can hear my dogs HOWLING into the night - most likely some wild beast out there has antagonized them yet again.]

So what am I doing whilst in Colorado this time around? Resting really. I've been playing music a lot. 1. Because I've missed it like CRAZY, and 2. Because I'm playing some songs at my friend's wedding Saturday. Been having a lot of fun trying out some songs on a new classical acoustic guitar lately. I mainly play an electric/acoustic, but a friend of mine (okay okay, who am I trying to fool, my mom) just recently got a classical and it sounds so purdy.

Can I just say that
I am itching to record some more. My dilemma is a lack of a microphone. The one I used to record the songs you hear on my myspace and such was in fact borrowed. Now I am without, and longing for the day when I'm able to purchase one that will be suitable for what I want to do. I've written quite a few songs since I recorded my last, however, I fear until I have a mic they'll stay a bit hidden. For me as well, I find that I haven't fully written a song until I start recording it. As I'm the only musician on all of my tracks, while writing, I really only write to one instrument, but as soon as I start recording and adding new tracks, a song is really able to take shape with different instruments and etc. I can't wait to do more. The sooner the better I say. If you or someone you know would like to donate to my microphone fund, please get in touch with me. ;)

I realize this blog is ALL over the place, as are most, but I thought I'd just try to recap this lost span of time through bullet points. So read below to see some of the highlights:
•Alaska •Traveling •Trip to San Francisco •Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince •Hotel upgrade •Picking up the tundra (in Alaska) •the end of So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 •Wedding Show •Lots of wildlife sightings •New friendships •Nearby tornado in CO •Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape 27
On that last one, let me take a moment to share about Mercedes-Benz. (sorry if you're already aware) So Mercedes-Benz TV online puts out a bi-monthly Mixed-Tape. Currently they're on #27, and I've been chosen to be featured on it. This means that myself along with 9 other artists appear on a 10minute video, introducing us. As well, you can download a song from each of us from the website. My track "It's Not For Us" is the first one on there, so if you haven't already, you should go check it out: http://www.mercedes-benz.tv/mixedtape Yay. Onward. I find this exciting as I'm still really in that 'new musician' category. I'm finding more and more opportunity to develop and grow, branch out and connect with important people, and I know that this is just a huge step for me to get some recognition and increase my fan base.

Speaking of which - if you like what I do, please let me remind you that 'word of mouth' is one of the
most powerful forms of advertisement. Tell your friends, pass along my links, and encourage people to give my stuff a listen. And for all of you who are already on the bandwagon, already listening, and in fact, reading this... right now.... I want to THANK YOU sincerely for the support. It really does - no generic thank you's here - mean a lot to me. A big hug your way.

I promise you there has been SO SO SO much on my mind lately, but I fear I'm relatively unable to articulate the vast majority of it. Maybe I'm still more tired than I'm aware. Though I'd find that hard to imagine after my epic 13hrs of sleep last night. I'm going to leave you with the beautiful lyrics to Cat Power's "I Found a Reason"... I've been playing it all day as I'm going to perform it during my friend's wedding ceremony Saturday. Oh Cat Power. One cool lady.

"Oh I do believe, in all the things you say/ What comes is better than what came before/ And you'd better come come, come come to me/ Better come come, come come to me/ Better run, run run, run run to me/ Better come/ Oh I do believe, in all the things you say/ What comes is better that what came before/ And you'd better run run, run run to me/ Better run, run run, run run to me/ Better come, come come, come come to me/ You'd better run"

Well Friends, I thank you and bid you a good weekend.
P e a c e & L o v e.
Audrey
